 The Lady & the Island Posted: 5/15/2009 It was a routine stop for the Solomon Islands live-aboard dive boat, Spirit of Solomons . I had traveled with the Bilikiki, her sister ship, several times over the years. We anchored in the Morovo Lagoon for a visit to Peava Village, a routine stop for both boats in their week-long dive tour through the islands. This trip – and the year was 2008 - would be different. The dive guests on the tour I was hosting piled into the Zodiac skiffs that took us ashore. Peava is famous for the skill of its wood carvers, and they were ready for us. Along the palm-fringed shore and the wood pier that reached out into the lagoon the superb carvings were laid out on straw mats, their artists ready to bargain with the visitors from far away.
